The Royal Tenenbaums - Intro (April 07)

"Anybody interested in grabbing a couple of burgers and hittin' the cemetery?"

(Yeah, I know it's a day early. I won't be around tomorrow.)

I'll be back on the 15th with the discussion post. I'm not giving you anything particular to watch for or think about beforehand because if it's your first time, I don't want you to be unduly influenced. But you might get a general idea of what you're in for from my reasons for choosing this movie:

1. I wanted a comedy, because I didn't think comedy was much discussed during movie madness, and this is my favorite one. I'm a huge fan of Wes Anderson and also of the Stiller-Wilson pairing. Not to mention Gene Hackman, who is always brilliant but I think especially so in comedy. He's at his funniest here.

2. I thought it would be a fun movie to talk about because I think it'll get a wide range of reactions from love to hate to boredom.

3. I'd love it if this movie got a few more fans. I'd be curious to know who's seen it before and who hasn't. I hope everyone will watch it again anyhow.

4. Cause Looney said this is the one I should pick.*

*Just kidding Brad!

Sounds great! I dunno why you said I'd hate it - I lurve comedy, plus the Wilson guys are always fun. I even enjoyed that movie (that most people hated) with Luke Wilson dictating a romance novel to Kate Hudson.

Excellent choice !!
Are you a Bottle Rocket fan as well ?

I haven't seen Bottle Rocket!!! I love Rushmore and was even mildly amused by The Life Aquatic. I will have to rent BR and have a Wes Anderson film fest when we watch The Royal T's again. Thanks for the tip!

Get on that, girl. Such a great movie.

Awesome to get back from vacation to see our happy little club kicking off with such an awesome movie. Can't wait to watch it again!

Never seen it. Will! (Am I the only one who will have to admit grudgingly to family that I'm even more of a nerd than they thought? "A what? Internet movie club? What?") ;/

Are you kidding me? I was regularly emailing my husband with updates on my Movie Madness score. As for the movie club, he's a bit disappointed that I didn't pick Big Trouble in Little China. And when my 3yo daughter sees me at the computer she says, "Mommy, are you gaming?" So, no worries about my family thinking I'm a bigger nerd than I, ahem, already thought.

What I thought. Whereas I'm embarrassed to admit I even know what a blog is. Oh well.

And no, I haven't seen it yet either :-)

And yes, I'm a geek, and no, this doesn't make me a bigger one... in fact, this probably brings me a little bit back toward the center :-)

Lotsa smileys today :-)
