Stick a Fork in Me

Well, we all know I lurve Northfork. But what do you think? And do NOT read this post if you haven't seen the movie yet! Please!

Yes, this is it! This is the official discussion thread!

Here are a few things I'd like to hear about, for my part:

- Obviously symbolism is rife. What's your overall take?

- What is your theory about Irwin? (I was going to say more here, but I'd rather not color the conversation.)

- What about Happy, Flower Hercules, & Co.?

- What was the significance of the necessity of each family clearing out their dead relatives?

- Who were the government men? Did you attach any significance to their, erm, motivation for clearing the town of its last residents?

- Cinematography? Thoughts? I want to just launch into what I thought, but again, you first!

- Whose performance really stood out for you?

Well, there are a few conversation starters.

Getting rid of the dead = erasing the past. HFH & Co = angels.

Interesting, weird movie, not sure I understood it all (plus I fell asleep before it was over -- sorry!).

It had cake!!!!! I liked the cake. :)

This was an odd movie. Even odder than I expected.
I liked it a lot. The one-liners were kinda odd though.
What you talkin' about, Willis?
They seem to have worn out their welcome.
I wasn't expecting that.
as for performances, i thought James Woods was fantastic.

I really loved the scene in the diner.

As for Happy, Flower Hercules and the rst- i agree with Paula- I assume they were angels.
I'm not sure what to think about Irwin.
I did like how the dreams and the reality all looked pretty much the same. The whole movie had this sort of "unreality" to it, which seemd appropriate,as the concept of flooding towns for reservoirs is rather unreal itself.
I liked it, though I don't claim to have completely understood it, but that's okay with me.
Thanks for choosing it.

Finished one viewing. I'd like to watch it with the director's commentary (and subtitles so I can understand what the fuck Nick Nolte is saying).

In the mean time, who else? Jeff? Joe? LOONEY?

[Later] Looney?
