Bringing up the young'ns with the classics

Saturday, we introduced The Holy Grail to our 9 yr. old son. He is quite the movie fanatic, having watched all 3 Lord of the Rings before he was 7... I suppose he is well rounded, or at least able to handle a certain level of plot....

I am happy to report that he found Monty Python to be quite entertaining! There are some adults out there who have no concept of British humor, so I'm quite proud of my boy. Or else Monty Python is targeted to 9 yr. old boys? That's a toss up.

Not only is he now hooked on Monty Python quoting bits around the house - hmmm, is that a good thing? My mom has now gotten him addicted to The Marx Brothers and Abbott and Costello....

I wish more people would show their kids the classics, and not have them think that Spongebob the Movie is quality filminati....

Just my thoughts...

You rock ;) My younger brother and I watched Python, The Goodies and (later) Fawlty Towers (all on PBC mind you) as kids...and loved them all. Quote to this day.

And I bet your son loved and the farty humor.

That is NOT MY FAULT! It was hubby who got her on to Spongebob!

At least she watches Wallace & Grommit, too.

My kids were watching a Chaplin documentary with me recently and my 4 year old daughter LOVED the film scenes. They were over a range of films but she really perked up when they were shown. At one point she turned to me and said, "Mommy, that man is funny." I said that indeed he was. I told my husband we need to get some Chaplin & Marx brothers DVDs ;)

My kids have always been exposed to LOTR. In this video, my daughter is two:

Sigh.

My little one does not like the Rankin & Bass Hobbit.

The shame. I mean, you try to raise them right, but.

I love Wallace and Grommit! We have Revenge of the Wererabbit...or something like that. Somehow I get sucked into that one every time he puts it on and I sit and watch that one with him over and over.. That is some amazing work those people do!

Krissy, Wererabbit is great. You should also check out some of the older&shorter ones you can get on DVD. I am a particular fan of The Wrong Trousers.

My 11-year-old is finally expressing interest in the Pythons after my hubby and I went to see "Spamalot." I'm just about ready to show him the holy grail of Holy Grail flicks, but I'm not sure if I want to answer a million questions about VIRGINS! ;)

Kids like this got nothing on those stuck up Montessori kids! Chaplin, Monty and Marx! That's well-rounded.

This counters nicely a distressing conversation I overheard at Blockbuster the other day. Someone was looking for a 'Classics' section: "You know - Hitchcock, stuff like that?"
The early-20s clerk had never heard of Hitchcock.
Some peoples' kids!!

They probably have "Speed" in the Classics section.
