March Movie Madness 2009 - The Actors & Actresses

COMPLETED BRACKETS DUE TO JEFFLKOS AT GMAIL DOT COM TODAY BY NOON FOUR PM EASTERN!

Here it is, folks. The official pairings and seedings for March Movie Madness 2009 - The Actors & Actresses. For those of you who have participated in MMM before, I'm running it same as last year in terms of scoring and determining which actor/actress moves on to the next round.

The Details:
  • Click the thumbnail above to see a large version of the bracket. You can download that pdf to fill in your picks.
  • Fill in the entire bracket, picking a winner between each actor/actress pairing.
  • Make your picks based on who you think the better actor/actress is.
  • The championship match will pit the top actor against the top actress. Don't forget to fill in the champion!
  • Email your picks to jefflkos at gmail dot com.
  • The winning actor/actress from each matchup will be determined by... you! Which ever actor/actress gets the most votes wins each match.
  • Scoring is as follows: You get 1 point for each correct pick in Round One, 2 points for Round Two, 4 points for Round Three, 6 points for Round Four, 8 points for Round Five, and 10 points for the Championship.
  • In the event of a tie, the person who got the most correct picks in Round Five will win. If still a tie, person who got most correct picks in Round Four wins, and on back.
  • There is no cost to play.
  • There really is no prize, other than pride, for winning. I was supposed to create a March Madness Champion icon for last year's champion (Paticus), but I never did that, so I figured I better not commit to anything this year.
  • COMMENT! The fun of this thing over the past few years has been the accompanying comments from each round. Please comment, please be impassioned, but please don't be a big dick. Something-of-a-dick is okay, but not a big rager.
  • Email me with any questions, or leave them in comments

  • Let the games begin!

Since it was all over the news last night (or the night before...can't remember) that President Obama finished his bracket for that basketball thingy, maybe you should send him this bracket to fill out, too. ;)

LOL, Emma, but I could care less what ANY politician likes.

Jefe, define the line between big dick and something-of-a-dick. ;)

My picks are in... and I only found it getting really difficult in the final 3 rounds. How can you pick between Brando and Daniel Day-Lewis? But, when I win, you all will see which of them I chose.

In the first round, I'm having a problem with Dench v. Dunaway (love them both) and Lange v. Benning (not very impressed by either, but I think Lange is inching ahead).

    And the Regionals...ugh...

    Gawd, this is so tough!

I think Something-of-a-Dick would be like, "Kos, your seeding process is a fucking travesty."

Big Dick would continue with, "Sean Penn a 14 and Denzel a 5?!! C'mon!"

And then Super-size Dick would add, "You misspelled Meryl."

    Glad I could help.

    Okay, my bad on Meryl.

    To the rest:

    Waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

    LOL!!!!

No Henry Fonda? NO PHillip SEYMOUR HOFFMAN, but we have Will Smith? This is a travesty! ;)

Nat, Phillip S. Hoffman is the 11th seed in the Kucher region.

LOL, I claim I should be in the Special Olympics bracket. I can say that now that Obama did. ;)

Anyway, I must have been blinded by the other actor in his bracket. That guy has always been tops.

That was all hypothetical, of course. I actually think you've done a bang-up job this year, Kos, perhaps the best MMM yet. Except for the Henry Fonda thing. Jeez.

I'm a big enough guy to admit when I made a mistake, and not having Henry Fonda in there was a big one. The past two years I had a great starting point for the bracket -- the American Film Institute. They have a top 100 films of all time, and a top 100 comedies of all time. There isn't anything like that for actors and actresses, at least, nothing that well organized. So it took a lot more research and memory-jogging, AND THE SEEDING WAS A BITCH! I've gotten grief for Brando vs. Depp, but seriously, when you're only dealing with 32 actors and 32 actresses, they're all going to be damn good. Any matchup is tough.

But yeah. My bad on Henry.

I think this one is the toughest one yet, I don't know how you came up with the seeds... I only hope I can get this done by Sunday. Travis keeps chiming in with his thoughts, he thinks Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman is Oscar caliber... I need complete and total quiet and isolation to complete this.

    You've truly outdone yourself Jeff!!

My child seems to expect some sort of parenting, but I will look at this over the weekend and send it in by the deadline.

Not to be a dick, but seriously, no Maureen O'Hara? What the hell type of racket is this.

    Kos said...

    No, not racket. Bracket.

I would have played had I known there'd be big dick talk.

I anticipate I'll continue my stellar losing streak with my hot-off-the-press just-completed bracket.

I ended up having to just go with gut/heart/personal preference instead of trying to overthink the whole thing.

I think everything in life should be determined by bracket seeding. This is an awesome way to make decisions. You've convinced me to go buy "The Final Four of Everything" book I keep hearing about. Oh, and fill in a bracket.

    Natsthename said...

LOL.. wow..thanks for that! I loved Mr. Fonda's work, and I think that you did a bang-up job here. I know, sucking up won't get me points! ;)

I agree with Emma, it would be easy to quibble about this and that, but I just went with my heart, and it all comes good in the end. There are about three possible winners other than my pick, and I wouldn't be at all upset if any of them won.
