A Night at the Opera goes down to The Jerk? I'll have to put it down to cultural illiteracy. Same with Being There vs. Best in Show, though a closer thing. Knocked out half my f***in' bracket. Sad, really :-)

Oh! And Blues Bros losing to Animal House? You people must not even be watching these movies...

Agree with Loons on Blues Bros, but The Jerk rocked. So glad I went with my heart on that one.

I agree with Looney on the Belushi contest - Animal House is an awesome comedy, but not nearly as original as BB. When I was in high school the latter kept me in stitches during a lengthy hospital stay (ha, stitches!). Plus, the film has a lot of hometown personality for me.

Not picking Being There was tough, but it was up against what I think is Chris Guest's best mockumentary (so far).

I agree about The Jerk's win - cultural thing.

Wow, close votes. Good news for me on BB!

On your part, you mean. Because The Jerk is a groundbreaking classic, plain and simple, and has as much right to be up there as anything.

You're right about BB though. Animal House is great - that was probably my toughest contest - but Blues Brothers is better.

Agreed. Although it's not so much illiteracy, it's a preference for "pop" culture, which is rarely culture at all.

Blues Brothers? Agreed.

And since Being There is my favorite film of all time, I REALLY agree.

What happened with Animal House v. Blues Brother? Yesterday, it was Animal House winning. Today, it's Blues Brothers.

Sorry, Emma, I had miscounted -- they actually tied, giving the win to the higher seed.

Being There is subtle, brilliant, underrated, deep, moving, and lovely, all at once.

Love that movie...

As for The Jerk, I also love that movie, and agree with Teacake in every way except the spurious notion that it somehow trumps Night at the Opera. A ridiculous notion...

The Big Store, maybe. Love Crazy, absolutely. Night at the Opera, no way. We sure agree here.

I have to tell you all that while I love The Jerk, I was damn close to "fixing" the bracket so Night at the Opera didn't go down. That was an awful match-up, I admit. As you can tell by my naming of the regions, all things comedy bow down to the Marx Brothers, as far as I'm concerned.

As puns are the foundation of wit, the Marx Brothers are the foundation of post-silent era movie comedy.

And The Jerk IS a very funny film.
