Diversion: M3 2009

I'll be posting Round 3 results for M3 2008: The Comedies tomorrow, but I figured it would be fun to have a diversion.

What should the theme of next year's March Movie Madness be?

So far I've heard Oscar Winners, Quotable Movies and Musicals.

Votes for any of those? Any other ideas?

Yeah, musicals! All in favor can get together to write the theme song. Be sure to let us know where to send the assassins.

How about worst movies ever? That oughta provide some good fodder for grumpy discussions!

Oh, I love the worst movies ever idea!!

That's fabulous!

But... I just put in the comments to the last post that I thought we should do "movies with hot wet guys." Are you suggesting my suggestion wasn't worthy?

I think Oscar Winners is a cool idea, but wonder if in practice it would be markedly different from the first year's bracket.

I also like the bad movies/cheesy movies idea.

Quotability is such a subjective thing it would be bound to cause even more controversy than this year.

Musicals only if people would be required to quote songs in their comments.

Scary movies would be a good one too. I have lots of opinions about what equals scary that I know you'd all just looooovee to hear.

I love SCARY movies, but that slasher crap is just gross. Where is the line drawn for that? I'm all for "Halloween," but "Friday The 13th" makes me wretch, as does "Nightmare On Elm St." Those final two are slasher flicks, but they are considered horror.

Thoughts?

I like the quotable movies idea...probably because I quote movies constantly. It's so much easier than thinking up original dialog.

What about B&W movies only?

If there were enough re-makes, that would be interesting...Father of the Bride vs. Father of the Bride...

Speaking of hot guys...has Kevin Bacon made enough movies that we could just have a Kevin Bacon extravaganza? ;)

I am the Bacon game champion of the world! I once brought Rudolph Valentino back to Bacon, and that was in the days before Google and IMDB.

I'm with the worst. Razzie winners, plus notable (Plan 9 from outer space) suckishness...

Movies with the letter Q in the title ?

Kos said...

Okay, Teacake, how many degrees from Kevin Bacon am I?

Maybe less than I think, because all I know of for sure is the Eddie Murphy thing, and I can't remember who else was in that besides you and Eddie. But Eddie was in Beverly Hills Cop with John Ashton, who was in She's Having a Baby with Bacon, so at most three. :)

You'd be amazed at how often John Ashton comes in handy for Bacon. He's one of those guys who's been in everything.

Teacake said...

Oh, and speaking of Ashton and She's Having a Baby, maybe next year you should do John Hughes movies. :)

I got you in two ;) Jefe was in “West of Here “ with Mary Stuart Masterson who was in “Digging to China “ with The Bacon.

...oh, and my first though was John Hughes movies, but would that bracket run too small? Perhaps and writer and director? Bet we’d all come purty close on choices.

I like the idea of musicals ‘cause you get the old, old school (back to "The Jazz Singer"), the classics on to your "Grease" and "Tommy" and what not.

When I told Hawk about the brouhaha in the comments, he said we should do decades: 30s-40s, 50s-60s, 70s-80s and 90s-00s in four separate brackets and see if the "old" films are the "better" films. ;)

Musicals would be great too but then there would probably be a lot of "yeah but the music isn't as good in ___" "but the dancing is better" "well So-N-So isn't a singer" etc. Then again, that could be kind of nifty.

Movies where Danny Elfman or John Williams did the soundtrack. Should be close to 100 by now, I'd say.
